Tyee Lodge Oceanfront Bed & Breakfast

Tyee Lodge was built as a bed and breakfast in 1996 but the building’s origins go back to the 1940s when a beach home was constructed on the site. Luxurious for its time, the original home featured large windows, knotty pine paneling, and a pink tiled bathroom. During the next 50 years, the home had several owners with some renovations. Then in 1996, seeing an opportunity to share the remarkable tree-framed setting, the owners at the time designed a huge addition over the top and to the side of the original home to create a bed and breakfast. The addition contains five ocean view rooms with private baths and fireplaces, as well as a dining room and great room with large windows overlooking the sea. The charm of the old has been combined with the newer construction and decor. The name and decor was chosen to reflect the Native American Coastal Indian word ‘Tyee.’ From the native language known as the Chinook Jargon, ‘tyee’ was their word for biggest and best, usually referring to Chinook Salmon weighing over 30 pounds. Our setting in the trees above the ocean beach and the closeness to Yaquina Head inspire the name. This area has a long history of Native American inhabitants. The B&B was purchased in 2006 and the new owners continue to upgrade the Lodge with new mattresses, comfortable chairs and other furniture, flooring, tile, and decor. Awards and recognitions have come from within the industry, but our most meaningful praise comes from guests who enjoy the ambiance, hospitality, and beauty of Tyee Lodge. The current owners purchased the B&B in 2011. They are pleased to call the Tyee Lodge their home and hope to share all of the wonders of this spectacular coastal retreat with all of their friends, new and old.

Located in Newport Oregon, Tyee Lodge is close to several other Central Oregon Coast attractions including the Bayfront, historic Nye Beach, ocean tour cruises and fishing, two lighthouses, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, and fantastic restaurants. Our Native American-themed rooms have Queen-sized beds with cozy chairs for reading, whale watching, or enjoying a storm. The rear gardens are made for catching fresh sea air and enjoying relaxing views of the mighty Pacific and Sitka Spruce. It’s the perfect spot for bird watching. A short private path leads to miles of incomparable Oregon beach and tidepools. Breakfasts at the Tyee Lodge Bed and Breakfast are served family style at 8:30 a.m. in our ocean view dining room.
